2. Is this program accredited?

The Program of Nursing is in the process of becoming accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. (CCNE)

3. Should I relocate for this program? 

Yes, you will need to relocate for this program. While some aspects of the program can be completed remotely, such as online courses, you are required to attend in-person lab courses, clinical experiences, and course exams throughout the program.

 

4. How long is this program?

The program is 4 consecutive semesters, which is 16 months.

 

5. How soon can I begin the program? 

The program admits students three times a year – Fall, Spring, and Summer – contingent upon completion of core curriculum and prerequisite requirements

 

6. Where are clinical placements located?

All clinical placements are located in New Orleans and its surrounding metropolitan area.

 

7. How much of the program is online vs. in-person?

In general, plan to be in person 2 to 3 days a week each semester. 

 

8. Can I work while in the program?

This is an intensive and accelerated program that requires a significant time commitment and focus. Due to its demanding nature, we do not recommend working while enrolled, as it may affect your ability to fully engage with the coursework and succeed in the program. 

 

9. How much time will I need to commit to the program?

Our curriculum is comprehensive, and students should expect to dedicate approximately 45 hours per week to the program. 

 

10. How many start dates does the aBSN program have per year?

The Tulane University Program of Nursing has three start dates per year – Fall, Spring, and Summer.

 

11. What GPA do I need to apply for the program?

The program requires a minimum of a 3.0 GPA overall and a 3.0 GPA for the seven nursing prerequisite courses. The prerequisite courses can be found here.

 

12. What makes the program accelerated? 

The program is accelerated because all courses are completed over four consecutive semesters, excluding holidays and two-week breaks between semesters. The program follows the Tulane University’s holiday structure. 

 

13. Does the program offer hands-on labs?

Yes, the program requires hands-on lab courses. More information can be found here.

 

14. Is there a part-time option for aBSN?

This is a full-time program. There is not a part-time option on admission. 

 

15. Does the program accept transfer credit from another nursing school?

The Program of Nursing does not accept transfer credit for professional nursing courses.

 

16. Does the program accept transfer students from another nursing school? 

If an applicant has attended a previous nursing program, a letter of academic good standing must be provided from that nursing school as part of the admission process.

 

17. Does the aBSN program accept International Students?

The Tulane University Program of Nursing does not accept International Students.

20. Where will I receive my degree from?

The BSN degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine Program of Nursing is conferred by the School of Professional Advancement (SoPA).

 

Segment for Prerequisite Courses:

  1. Are prerequisite nursing courses taken online accepted?

Prerequisite nursing courses taken online from an accredited college or university may be transferred for credit, regardless of whether they were completed online or in person.

 

2. Do nursing major prerequisite classes need to be complete within a certain time period? 

Yes. The nursing prerequisite course requirements must be completed within seven years of applying to the accelerated BSN program. Otherwise, you must retake the prerequisite course from an approved institution.

 

3. Can I have classes in progress when I apply? 

Yes. Students are able to receive conditional admission if they are enrolled in no more than 3 remaining courses. Only one of those courses can be a nursing science prerequisite course: Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2, Microbiology, and Chemistry.

2. If I am a SoPA student, do I need to complete a separate application for the nursing program? 

Applicants must complete a nursing program application to be considered for admission. 

SoPA students who have completed prerequisite requirements, or who are in the process of completing up to 3 final prerequisite requirements, must submit a nursing program application to be considered for admission.
