Tulane’s Nursing Program is an initiative of the School of Medicine in collaboration with the School of Professional Advancement. This arrangement allows us to shape a quality nursing education that builds on Tulane’s strengths: distinguished faculty members and innovative academic programs, dynamic industry and community partnerships, and a vast alumni network.
Tulane’s BSN program, in an accelerated format, will leverage existing expertise and assets across both schools to offer the very best in nursing education.
Tulane Simulation Center
Resources like the The Tulane Center for Advanced Medical Simulation and Team Training allows us to educate future physicians and nurses side-by-side, preparing the next generation of healthcare leaders using evidence-based practices and state of the art technologies.
The Sim Center features 14,000 square feet of real-life environments and meeting space for hands-on training, instruction and skills assessment.
Admission Requirements
With three program starts a year, Tulane’s accelerated BSN program allows you to leverage your existing college experience and earn your nursing degree in as few as 16 months.
Students seeking admission must satisfy the following requirements:
- Hold a minimum of 60 non-nursing college credits from an accredited institution.
- Have a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.0 and a cumulative nursing major prerequisite GPA of 3.0.
- Request transcripts from all institutions where previously enrolled.
- Complete the program prerequisites within seven years of application to the nursing program.
- Receive approval from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
Students may transfer up to 60 credit hours that fulfill Tulane University School of Professional Advancement core curriculum requirements, writing across the discipline, and nursing major prerequisites. A cumulative transfer GPA of 3.0 is required, and a cumulative Nursing Major Pre-requisite GPA of 3.0 is required and a grade of C or better in any one course:
- Nutrition - 3 credits
- Statistics - 3 credits
- Developmental Psychology - 3 credits
- Anatomy & Physiology 1* - 4 credits
- Anatomy & Physiology 2* - 4 credits
- Microbiology* - 4 credits
- Chemistry* - 4 credits
* Includes course and lab.
All nursing major prerequisite courses must have been completed within seven years of application to the nursing program.
The Nurse Practice Act of Louisiana requires that students must be approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN) to practice as student nurses prior to enrolling in clinical nursing courses. The LSBN requires persons who have been arrested, charged with, or convicted of any criminal offense in any state to petition the Louisiana State Board in writing for the right to practice as a student in Louisiana. The LSBN also requires persons who have any addiction or impairment which may affect their ability to practice nursing to petition for the right to practice as a student prior to enrolling in a clinical nursing course.
The Application for Approval to Enroll in a Clinical Nursing Course form is provided upon admission to the nursing program.
Students must submit to a criminal background check per LSBN requirements. Information on the procedure is provided to students upon admission. Final program acceptance may be contingent upon criminal background check results and is contingent upon LSBN approval.
