Biography

Dr. Heather Abadie, DNP, RNC-OB is the Director of Simulation Education and an Assistant Professor with Tulane University in the School of Medicine’s Program of Nursing. She received her undergraduate degree (BSN) from The University of Southern Mississippi in 2008 and her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a focus on nursing education from LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing in 2015. In 2020, Dr. Abadie obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a specialization in Educational Leadership from American Sentinel College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Post University after conducting research on 'The Effect of an Educational Intervention on Undergraduate Nursing Faculty’s High-Fidelity Simulation Teaching Skills Confidence Level'.

 

Dr. Abadie has primarily taught undergraduate women’s health nursing since 2015 and was honored to receive the faculty DAISY award in May 2021. Prior to her entering academia, Dr. Abadie was a staff and charge nurse on the labor and delivery and antenatal units at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie, LA from 2008-2015. During that timeframe, she served as chair of the management advisory committee from 2012-2015, was awarded team member of the month November 2012, and received the Donna Swartzfager Memorial Award in 2014.

 

Dr. Abadie is active with Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society as Alpha Beta Iota's inaugural Leadership Succession Chair and served two terms as vice-president for the Epsilon Nu chapter. She earned certification in inpatient obstetrics (RNC-OB) from the National Certification Corporation and has maintained that certification since 2011. Dr. Abadie has been a member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses as well as the Greater New Orleans Breastfeeding Awareness Coalition. She has received additional training in Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Advanced External Fetal Monitoring, and is a LGBTQ SafeZone trainer.
