Admission Process
How to Apply
NTC Track applicants do not apply through a separate external application – instead, they complete a declaration process through their NTC academic advisor.
Step 1: Meet with Your NTC Academic Advisor
Your advisor will help ensure that you take courses to meet the eligibility requirements listed under Admission Requirements and Prerequisites.
Step 2: Complete the Nursing Major Declaration for Newcomb-Tulane College Students
Newcomb-Tulane College students who are in the last semester of completing their NTC Core Curriculum and/or nursing prerequisites will complete the Major Declaration for Nursing. Students understand that entry into the Nursing program will be conditional until all eligibility requirements have been met.
- Students interested in Fall entry will complete the major declaration form in the Spring of their Sophomore Year.
- Students interested in Spring entry will complete the major declaration form in the Fall of their Junior Year.
Major Declaration Requirements
Acknowledge Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be in good academic standing, meet Newcomb-Tulane College (NTC) cumulative GPA requirements, and earn a minimum 3.0 GPA in nursing prerequisite courses. All NTC Core Curriculum and nursing prerequisite courses must be completed prior to program entry, as successful completion is required for admission and progression.
Acknowledge Technical Standards
Applicants digitally sign that they have read, understand, and meet the Program of Nursing Technical Standards (available in the application and the Student Handbook). Tulane is committed to access for students with disabilities.
Acknowledge the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN) Eligibility Criteria for Enrollment in Clinical Nursing Courses
Applicants must acknowledge LSBN requirements for clinical participation, including completion of a criminal background check via fingerprinting and submission of an application through the Louisiana Nurse Portal; instructions will be provided after admission to ensure clinical eligibility.
Submit Your Admission Video
All applicants are required to submit a 2-minute admission video uploaded to Slate. This is your opportunity to share your story in your own words – please do not use AI-generated responses.
The video must be no more than 2 minutes and should address the following questions:
- Describe two specific characteristics you possess that will make you a strong candidate for the Tulane Nursing program, with concrete examples from academic, work, or service experience.
- Briefly describe a specific situation in which you demonstrated leadership, including the context, your role, and those involved.
- Describe a specific strategy you have used in the past that will help you to manage the demands of this accelerated and academically rigorous program with the other demands in your life.
- Describe any past challenges that may have impacted your academic success, or are reflected in your transcripts, that would help the admission committee to make an informed decision.
Video Appearance Guidelines:
- Professional attire and grooming (no graphic t-shirts, athletic wear, or ball caps)
- Suitable lighting with your entire face visible
Step 3: Prior Professional Nursing Program Enrollment (if applicable)
Applicants who were enrolled in a previous professional nursing program must provide a letter of academic good standing from that school of nursing.
Step 4: English Language Proficiency (if applicable)
If your prior degree is from an institution outside the U.S. where English is not the primary language, you must submit a TOEFL score of 100+ or a Duolingo English Test score of 130+ (college code #6832). Exemption requests may be submitted.
Step 5: Coursework from Foreign Universities (if applicable)
Coursework from foreign universities must be evaluated by World Education Services (WES). All materials must be submitted in English. Credits from non-accredited institutions will not be accepted.
Step 6: Outstanding Prerequisite Coursework
Applicants can be considered for conditional admission based on meeting requirements for declaring nursing as a major. Admission is conditional until the applicant successfully completes and achieves the required GPA in the remaining courses.
After Acceptance — Before Classes Begin
Upon acceptance, students will receive a Welcome Letter with instructions for completing required items.
